  1. 1Day 1 Monza

Our guided tour will let you discover Monza, an important Lombard city that has maintained its significance over the centuries. We will visit the Cathedral, founded in the 6th century and now visible in its Gothic form, which houses the Iron Crown, a priceless relic used to crown European emperors from Charlemagne to Napoleon, made using a nail from the Cross of Christ.

The sumptuous chapel that holds the Iron Crown is decorated with one of the most splendid fresco cycles of the International Gothic style, depicting the stories of Queen Theodelinda, the foundation of the Cathedral, and the history of the Lombard people. Thanks to a recent restoration and a new lighting system in the chapel, the work of the Zavattari workshop can now be admired in its full glory.

The tour continues with a visit to the adjoining Treasury Museum of the Cathedral, which houses the world’s most important collection of late antique and Lombard goldsmithing, one of the highlights being the famous Hen with Chicks. The collection also boasts a fine repertoire of medieval and Renaissance objects, sculptures, and paintings, concluding with works by Lucio Fontana.

The visit also includes a tour of the center of Monza, where the imposing Palazzo dell’Arengario, the seat of power during the communal era, stands prominently.
